Managing Permissions in Grafana

  1. By default all the Dashboards in Grafana are Public.

  2. To provide edit permissions follow below.

    1. Go to the Dashboard for which permission need to be changes. And Click on Folder Actions.

    2. Click on Manage Permissions.

    3. Click on Add Permissions.

    4. Select User from Drop Down and search with the User's MSID.

    5. Select any one of the permissions.

    6. Click Save.

Managing Grafana from Apex

Requesting Folder

Steps

  1. Go to Apex.
  2. Click on Grafana. Grafana
  3. Click on Folders And Alert Notifications and then Create. Requesting Create
  4. Fill the Form and Click "Submit". Create Create
  5. A Success Message will appear below.
  6. Done. The folder will now be visible in Grafana.

Requesting Datasource

  1. Go to Apex.

  2. Click on Grafana. Grafana

  3. Click on Create. Requesting

  4. Fill the Form and Click "Submit". Use the prometheus endpoint URL for each environment. Rest you can refer the ScreenShots.

    1. For Dev: https://optima-dev.optumrx.com/monitor

    2. For Stage: https://optima-stage.optumrx.com/monitor

    3. For Test: https://optima-test.optumrx.com/monitor

    4. For Prod: https://optima-prod.optumrx.com/monitor

  5. A Success Message will appear below.

  6. Done. The datasource will now be visible in Grafana.

Deploying Prometheus

  1. All the monitoring components are packed into a Helm Chart stored in above repository. The values of deployments are controlled from the values.yaml file.

  2. The size of storage for Prometheus is controlled here

  3. The data retention is controlled here. The retention and size of storage are directly proportional.

  4. The configuration of Prometheus is maintained here. It is a custom configuration that captures the camunda components metrics from all the namespaces starting with optima-*.

  5. Jenkins pipeline is created to deploy this. Jenkins Link.

Importing Grafana Dashboards

  1. Download/Prepare a JSON for the Dashboard.

  2. Go to Grafana. Click on the Plus Button on Top Right.

  3. Click on Import Dashboard.

  4. We can either Upload Json from file, Use the Grafana Dashboard ID for duplicating dashboard or directly paste the JSON.

  5. After Clicking on the Load Button, Select appropiate Datasource, Name and Folder and import the Dashboard. Change the UID if another dasgboard of same name and id exists.
